Library Club

The Jing Xuan Library is a place frequently visited by students to study, sleep, or just relax due to the comfortable environment it provides. This is made possible by the librarian and the Library Club CCA!

The Library Club consists of a small group of 28 students and is split into 3 divisions. The event planning division plans events, such as the Library Livehouse and Library Week, for the library, while the publications and design division posts and edits materials for Library Club to publicise their activities. The Library Club also has the CIP division, where they visit public libraries to provide help.

Most of the time, the Library Club does work assigned to them by the librarian or their CCA Teacher In-Charge, Mr How. This includes helping to improve the library by designing signages around the library and implementing a relaxation corner where there are comic books available for students to read. Additionally, they design and put up posters to advertise upcoming library events. Furthermore, they conduct CCA bonding, allowing CCA mates to get to know each other better. Occasionally, they collaborate with other CCAs such as Symphonic Band, Choir and Astronomy Club, lending them a place for the CCAs to conduct their performances or talks open to the school population.

Both the President and Vice President were inspired to join the Library Club upon attending the CCA’s tea session. The tea session itself was extremely insightful, with the seniors’ friendliness and valuable experiences appealing to the current President and Vice President, strengthening their interest in the CCA.

Throughout their experience here, they have enjoyed CCA and found it highly rewarding. Opportunities for implementing new ideas were made available to them and there were also bonding sessions and outings out of school, which allowed CCA mates to forge close friendships. Additionally, members of the CCA were not subject to high volume training or pressure, thus serving more as a time for them to unwind amidst the fast pace of work in JC.

However, their experience in CCA was not all smooth sailing. One of the biggest challenges the Library Club faces is their outreach. While they are a relatively small CCA, they organise quite a number of events, so it is important for them to attract students to attend such events. However, they are commonly held back by their ability to spread word about their upcoming events due to the limited number of followers on their Instagram Page, which they use to advertise their events. As such, the Library Club plans to start advertising through physical publicity and understand the student body’s interests to better cater to them, and to improve their publicity as a whole.

If you are interested in designing or carrying out events, and wish to have a free space to let your ideas flow, Library Club is a good choice for your CCA. Furthermore, Library Club is suitable for you if you are looking for a bonded CCA since the CCA is close-knit and welcoming to all! Library Club is also a comfortable space where you can relax from the high stress academic environment in Hwa Chong and enjoy your time with friends. If you are interested in joining after reading about the Library Club experience, do consider joining Library Club!

For the rest of the student population, Library Club wishes to let you know that the library is always welcome to anybody who wants to come in to study or relax. If you ever have any ideas about how the Library Club can improve the library to make it better for the student population, feel free to email them!
