Dealing with Exam Results Positively

With the return of the Promotional Examination papers, it is natural that we feel stressed and worried about our results. In particular, if our grades do not meet our expectations, we are bound to be disappointed, especially with all the hard work we have put in. Yet, do understand that your results neither define your success nor mark the end of the world! If you are feeling downcast over your results, fret no longer: we have some tips to deal with the blow!

1. Taking care of yourself

Confide in a trusted friend, family member or teacher about your feelings. Listening to different perspectives and advice will also help you build a more positive mindset and bounce back from your setbacks more easily.

2. Managing Expectations Rationally

Comparison is the thief of joy - while such a competitive learning environment may be stressful, we urge you to not be overly fixated on your peers’ results! Remember: everyone progresses at different paces. Instead of constantly comparing with others, set realistic goals based on your individual academic performances. Adjusting to the arduous JC lifestyle amidst the raging pandemic is an uphill task alone, so do not be too hard on yourself!

3. Future Planning

Last but not least, reflect on what you could have done differently in revising for your examinations. Consider improving your revision techniques, and schedule regular consultations with teachers if needed. Manage your time well and resist procrastinating. Formulate a practical study plan to stick to, and incorporate short breaks every few hours to prevent burnout.

Most importantly, work against repeating your past mistakes and remain optimistic regardless of the circumstances. Failure isn’t a permanent state of being. We have faith that you will get through this, so do believe in yourself too!

We hope that you will feel less alone with these tips. Remember we are always here for you, and all the best in your journey towards success! You asked, we delivered!

Best of luck,
